Merel van Beek (1998) is a young and eccentric artist who fully immersed herself in deepening her artistic identity in 2017. After studying at the Art Academy for a year, she chose to follow her own path, guided by emotion, passion, and intuition. From her studio in the center of The Hague, Merel creates colorful, modern, and imaginative paintings, with a strong focus on cat art. Cats hold a special place in both her work and her life. She not only finds them beautiful, but is deeply fascinated by their character: independent, sensitive, mysterious, soft, yet powerful. Their autonomous nature and subtle expressiveness move her profoundly. For Merel, cats embody freedom and intuition, the very core values that guide her artistic process. In her paintings, cats therefore take the lead role. They appear in playful, colorful worlds where reality and imagination merge. By placing cats at the center of her work, Merel expresses emotions and inner experiences in a playful yet powerful way. For Merel, art is both a form of escape and a driving force in her life.
